Chandler is ONE
Posted on September 7, 2011
It seems completely unbelievable to me that my little baby is one. A whole year has flown by so fast! When Brock was born, I thought that first year would never end- I was totally blindsided by the change that he brought to my life. Let’s be honest- he rocked my world. The colic, the acid reflux, the exhaustion. When I got to his first birthday, I felt like I had survived a mini tornado. When Chandler came along, I knew that the exhaustion would pass, and I was prepared for all of the rest of the ups and downs that come with an infant. I was ready for this tornado- hunkered down in the basement with my helmet on.
I also knew that I wanted this whole experience to be different. My very normal delivery with Brock was good- actually great. It pretty much went exactly as planned, which in and of itself is a major blessing. And that epidural was SO wonderful, I wanted to kiss the anesthesiologist. But as I journeyed through my second pregnancy, I felt like I wanted something different. After watching THIS and reading THIS and THIS and some other very good books and articles, and talking to a good friend that had two children naturally, I decided to have Chandler without the epidural- no drugs for me. I hired the most amazing doula, Alice, and began mentally and emotionally preparing myself for the marathon of labor.
And when it was time, I rocked the heck out of those contractions. There was no way I could have done it without Ryan holding my hand literally every step of the way, and Alice, who knew exactly what I needed and when- she was like a silent force field of knowledge and instinct and respect and she was the greatest. The last 15 minutes or so blew my mind, I’ll admit. And I’ll also admit to maybe smacking the midwife’s hand away at one point. But otherwise, having that baby was the most humbling, empowering, brave, and important thing I will ever do. I feel like instead of her just being delivered passively, we worked together and brought her here together, and I instantly felt and still feel such an amazing connection with her that I partially attribute to the choice I made to endure that labor WITH her.
Here is a slideshow of the day she was born- nothing too graphic of course! Labor photos by Alice Turner, Song is Feels Like Home by Chantal Kreviazuk.

OLDEST | Atlanta Child Photographer

I can’t believe my little baby boy is so grown up. When he was born, I remember feeling like this little stranger had just rocked my world, and changed everything in my life forever. I couldn’t have known then how funny he would be. Or how sweet. Or how difficult. He brings me so much joy (and sometimes frustration) but I am so blessed to be the mother responsible for raising up this little boy. I can’t wait to see how he grows into his role as a big bother, my precious oldest baby.

FOUR | Atlanta Family Photographer

I was so excited when this family asked me to do a session with them. I am so lucky that I can call Chad and Trish friends, because I can honestly say they are two of the nicest people I have ever met. I’m also very lucky as a photographer because they are a SUPER GORGEOUS family.
I knew I had to get some photos in front of this wall…
I almost fell over when I peeked at these pics on the back of my camera- LOVE this whole series with the wall…

Isn’t she just SO stunningly beautiful?

I’m thinking these kids will make perfect matches for Brock and Chandler in about 20 years, I’m just sayin’.

Seriously, scrape my JAW off the FLOOR with those blue eyes. LOVE these next ones…

Chad and Trish, thank you so much for allowing me to photograph your beautiful family- I love that you trusted me to see all of the spunk, humor, and LOVE in your little family of four.
xoxo, desiree

Gosh I just really love Halloween… And we’ve hit the Halloween jackpot because our neighborhood is THE BEST. I’ve never seen anything like it- it’s scary
mania around here! We took the kids out early so Brock wouldn’t be too scared- he’s going through a bad dream phase right now and we didn’t want to add
fuel to THAT fire!
Brock wanted to be a UPS man. No reason, other than he LOVES the UPS truck- he stands at the front window and waits till it drives by
The costume was a
big hit- several people took pictures of him to send to their friends/relatives who actually are UPS drivers!

And our new little bug

Please ignore the terribly wrinkly costume- he’d been wearing this outfit for weeks, and mommy didn’t quite get her act together to iron it before trick-or-treating

These people go ALL OUT!!

This neighborhood is awesome

Hope everyone had a wonderful Halloween!

These two kids were such a hoot! Mom wanted me to capture their family having fun and goofing off. That was easy to do! They sure kept me on my toes! It was a perfect session to kick me out of maternity leave!

And of course no family session is complete without a lollipop at the end!
